and if it is not, is there anything I can do to avoid adding another layer of plywood or removing the existing plywood? Something laid over the seams in the mortar, maybe? Thanks

  1. If you have time email me.........what are you trying to accomplish............a base for a new tile floor.....how thick is your plywood floor 3/4'' and are your floor joist on 16'' centers and why so thick on the hardibacker.....you can get that stuff 1/4 or 3/8.....and that is heavy as it is........email me if you can...thanks. I have layed tile on particle board and plywood w/thin set.......sometimes it's nice to seal the particle board or plywood......they also make concrete board...it works good I just don't like it that well.

  2. The floor you are installing is called a floating floor because as long as you have a sound level surface the floor will be fine.

  3. check here

  4. You should be fine as long as the existing plywood is sound. However if you have any doubt you can always lath and mud it. You do understand that any of it may crack being on top of wood sub structure.

  5. you should be fine as long as the ply is not rotted and is flat .
