  1. It depends what you're trying to accomplish. In general, most people running as part of program of conditioning for sports should run or do whatever their aerobic excerise is daily, with perhaps one day a week off just for mental rest.

All track runners run at least 6 days a week, often twice a day if they are training for very long distances such as marathons. Certainly players of other sports which require very high levels of aerobic endurance such as soccer and hockey do these activities pretty much daily.

There is not the need for a day of rest as is done in heavy stress weight lifting for body buidling.

Two questions you really need to consider. 1) Are you in good enough health/condition to do this amount of exercise right now and 2) How fast should you run. Too slow and you won't get much benefit, too fast and you'll overstress yourself. A good guideline for general conditioning is that the speed should be somewhat challenging to you but you should be able to hold a conversation through the whole exercise period.

Whether training for track or other sports a mix of sprints and distance is always good. They can be done on the same day or broken up into separate days....or if you want a really challenging workout mix them in the same run, look up "fartlek" to find info on this interesting and challenging type of conditioning. Not for the weak of soul!

If you're doing the exercise specifically to compete in track I would strongly suggest getting together with experienced track atheletes in your area to train....and in any case jogging/running is much more pleasant with a partner of similar ability.

Also, even if training to be a track athlete don't ignore the wieght room, muscle strenght, including upper body, is very helpful to competitive middle and long distance running, bulk is not.

  2. Let your body tell you what to do.  Make sure that you don't over do it bc that is when you get injured.

  3. why are you running 3 miles?

if you want to lose weight, then you should do sprints. they're more helpful

  4. if you want to run one day after the other, then its okay to do so. as long as you take AT LEAST ONE DAY OFF a week. that is what my coach always assured us to do for cross country.

just make sure if you do run 3 miles a day, to gradually progress, dont limit yourself, but dont over do it

    good luck!
