  1. Most states have laws against keeping wild animals as pets, and should you decide to clip a bird's wings and put it in a cage, should be a bird that has been purchased from a breeder, or at least a pet shop.

Wild birds, like wild animals, carry things, like lice, mites, communicable diseases to other birds, esp. for domesticated birds, like pigeons, doves, parakeets, parrots, etc.

Wild animals harbor things like rabies, lices, fleas, ticks, and just do not make good pets.

leave the wild animals where they belong, in the wild.

I suggest you go visit a pet shelter, and adopt a puppy or kitty that needs a good home, and something you WON'T have to worry about harboring some disease or parasite!

  2. Hi,

It is illegal to capture a wild bird.

  3. No. It is illegal to keep wild animals.

  4. No, not only is it a bad idea and cruel, but it is also illegal

  5. No.  Besides just being a bad idea in most places it is illegal

  6. no that is really unfair to the animal it is use to freedom 24.7. not a good idea at all !

  7. It is extremely cruel to take a wild animal and force it to become a pet... if it has not been raised in captivity from the time it was a baby, then not only is it probably deathly afraid of humans, but it knows what it is like to be free, and it will continue to miss that freedom for the rest of its life. The birds you see in pet stores were _captive bred_, meaning they were raised in captivity, are descended from parents who were most likely also raised in captivity, etc. etc. They actually could not survive on their own in the wild, since a wild bird's parents teach it how to live in the wild, whereas a bird raised by humans did not receive this training. Instead a captive-raised bird learned that humans are a part of its "flock", and trusts and likes them; it is perfectly suited to being a pet, and releasing it into the wild would actually be cruel. Most pet birds released into the wild are killed by predators, or starve to death, or freeze to death.

It is, in fact, illegal to possess a native wild species, for any reason, without a permit; a person would be fined several thousand dollars, even spend time in jail, for possessing a bird or any other wild animal that is native to the country, or which was removed from the wild illegally in another country. Such permits are generally restricted to wildlife rehabilitation or educational purposes.

  8. you didn't say what kind of bird you have, if any. depending on what you have, besides being illegal, it could be a federal offense.

  9. NO, it isnt

And I don't approve of pets from a pet store either.

  10. Wild animals like birds are use to freedom and flying..how would you feel if you were suddenly stuck into a small enclosure unable to fly and not do what you normally do? Seriously think about it.

REGARDING YOUR UPDATE: Most birds in pet stores have been hand reared since they were hatched, they are not just wild birds people go out and catch from the wild, maybe you need to research.
