Question:

Is it okay to keep my glasses on all the time?

I'm 16 and my bf likes the way I look in my glasses. They're really just for the 'puter and for reading. Distance things look blurry with 'em on but he says that I just have to get used to 'em. I've been leaving 'em on for a few days now.

  1. If they are only for close-in things like reading, then you shouldn't wear them all the time. You could damage your vision.

  2. Technically, wearing them won't "damage" your vision. But, why walk around with your vision impaired? If you can not see right walking around and driving, why do that to yourself? Go and get a pair that are either for distance or that have no correction in them to wear as an accessory.Let him pick them out if they are mostly for his benefit, and then you can wear them as much as you want and be comfortable in them instead of compromising your own comfort and safety for someone elses benefit.

  3. If you were prescribed glasses for farsightedness, then your eyes will relax with continued wear and you'll soon be able to see fine in the distance while wearing your glasses.

If you are wearing glasses for accomodation problems (using the muscles in your eyes to focus for near work), then vision will continue to be blurry in the distance while wearing them.

Wearing or not wearing won't change your vision in either case, so it's just a personal choice and certainly OK to wear full-time.  The only caveat is that you should drive however you see best.

  4. That is being plain silly. If they aren't for distance vision, then don't wear them for distance.

Hopefully your boyfriend likes you for more than your glasses.

You won't get used to them, you will just cause yourself a lot of discomfort.

  5. If I were you, I would be delighted if my BF liked me in glasses (and I hope that you yourself also like how you look in them).  Even so, I would not be prepared to put up with blurry vision (regardless of whether or not it damaged my eyesight).   Get another pair with a prescription suitable for distance vision (or plain glass if no correction is required)
