I took my pet rat outside today. He seemed to like to play in the grass. Is it okay to let pet rats play outside and is there anything I need to do after he plays outside, like clean them?

  1. yea go ahead it belongs outside cause it's a low class rodent and it belongs in the streets so yea go ahead but wen u do it u won't see it again well Good Luck

  2. I don't think so... he could run away, and they run fast. Unless you keep an eye on them. Still, not the greastest idea as mentioned. You can let it run around your room instead ;)

    He might enjoy that too.

  3. I used to take my rat outside to play in the yard, he loved bouncing in the grass.  Things to think about; Is he trained well enough to come when you call him ? Mine would actually make sure that I stayed close to him !  I see some have mentioned he might get caught by a bird, a cat, a dog or something like that.  Yes,this can happen. Keep him close to you. Don't leave him alone, of course, even for a second.  Also, if you're playing on the grass, make sure that it hasn't been fertilized, or had any other kinds of chemicals put on it lately.  Make sure there isn't anything poisonous he can get into. As far as fleas or mites, keep his cage clean, it should be ok.  They do sell discs to hang outside the cage to repel fleas and mites.

Rats are very intelligent, curious and active. Keep playing with him, he loves it !

  4. He can pick up fleas and other parasites that way. If he ran away he could get killed. If a cat sees him, he might get attacked. Or a hawk. Or a dog. He's low on the food chain.

  5. Not the greatest idea.

He could catch diseases from wild rats- remember, you're never too far away from a wild rat- or suddenly be attacked by a cat or a wild bird, which would happen too quickly before you could stop it. He could also escape and run off before you could stop him, or bring in parasites or worms from outside into the house and make himself sick.

  6. if he is in a clean environment its fine just don't lose him

the biggest threat isn't cats its humans pet rats follow people around so the first human he sees he will play with and unfortunately not many people like rats

just look out for flease on him and bath him weekly he will be fine but only let him have a small pach of grass

    always whach him

and if you lose a rat there is a chance he will folow your sent

    ellie..xx
