The cage I have for my bunny is HUGE. It is a sturdy wire dog crate/kennel thing with a plastic bottom. I am looking for a hutch for outside but as of right now, I need to line the cage with something. Is newspaper toxic to the bunny because of the ink? I have an appointment with the college I am going to but I will be back to check on answers. PLEASE respond. I need to clean the cage out as soon as I get back. thanks!

  1. Um you could line your bunnies litterbox with newspaper and fill it up with shredded paper or carefresh?

Bunnies are really inside pets, and large dog kennels work really well.

Newspaper is not toxic by the way.

  2. its not harmful, but I would get some bunny turf, or padding:)

  3. the newspaper will not harm your bunny. They will chew on it but the ink will not harm them at all.

  4. Most newspaper print is non-toxic, but you might check with the paper company just in case.  Also, for your bunny's comfort, you need to add some type of shavings (not pine) or other material suited to bunnies.

  5. yes, good idea. when the bunny poops, just throw the newspaper out! its a great way of recycling newspaper. or, if you have a compost bin, throw the newspaper along with the p**p in there!

    good thinking...:)

  6. You should be ok to line it with newspaper as they are usually non toxic. You do need to make sure you have plenty of hay and pellets and fruit and veg and stuff for him to munch on.

It is preferable to get some kennel liners but newspaper is ok if you cant.

  7. no it's not harmful at all. That's what i've been using for my rabbit for the past 4 years and she's fine. They will have lots of fun shredding the newspaper.

  8. Most newspaper these days are made from soy based ink and it is non toxic to your rabbit. I have my entire floor lined with newspaper in the rabbit room until they are litter box trained.
