I'm thinking about going out for the rugby team but I'm a little bit overweight and don't have great stamina. Anyone who knows this sport, do you think I'd be okay to play?

  1. Nothing wrong with "a little overweight". Many players at lower levels are sometimes overweight, because of the social aspect of rugby. Ask any non-professional player what is the best part of playing rugby, and the majority of answers will be the beer after the game.

The stamina part is more worrying. As long as you recognize it and don't try to go overboard running around, but try to improve it during training sessions, it will be fine.

So to answer your question, go and play and have a ball.

  2. Yeh! The team will love you. Always good to have a big prop gaining lots of metres. Don't worry. Stamina and fitness will come. You can always sign up for a fitness class.

  3. It depends on where you play in some cases it could be helpful

  4. Yeah Mate , Look at the England World Cup squad, the forwards are all overweight and unfit, most of them are too old as well , Youv`e got less to lose than they have....they`re gonna lose their title  and cup.

And their pride......go ahead, give it a go !

  5. after a couple months training, youll be fit.. try staying behind and doing a few laps? and if you have a little bit of fat then try being a prop forward, theyre supposed to be fat!

  6. Rugby is the original "pints and pies" sport. Nothing wrong with a little extra weight  ;-)

Seriously, depending on what position you play, the weight may actually be a slight advantage (as long as you aren't too overweight).

Strength and stamina are more what you need, but they will both come with training.

  7. Go for it 'Big Fella'.  That's one of the great things about rugby, most body shapes can find a position.

Get involved and get to training, that'll sort out the fitness side of it.

  8. You will need stamina and good health, and strength.

Don't worry about being a little overweight - there are some big big lads in Rugby. However - they're generally all pretty fit. You have to be. Or get fit really quick.

You'll have to work on your Stamina though - how you going to last 80 mins??

  9. hey..

trust me its a good thing to have a lil weight on you if you wanna play the game i was on a rugby team and trust me i flew lol

but as time goes on and the training you will tend to lose the weight and gain muscle TRUST ME !! i was over weight when i started but after training i lost weight
