Is it okay to put a baby gate in my toddlers doorway?

My son will begin sleeping in a toddler bed. I am concerned about him getting up in the night, and wandering. A baby gate cannot be placed at our stairs with out some serious construction. Would it be okay to put a baby gate up in his doorway?

baby gates are wonderful things:) i would also place a monitor in his room so you can hear if hes up and about :)

I would, especially if you are worried about him getting up and he is prone to wander.  I would continue to leave the baby monitor on though, in case he wakes up and tries to find you in the night.

Yes.  A baby gate is a great idea!  You don't want to close his door to make him feel shut out from the world, but also don't want him falling down the stairs.  A baby gate is a wonderful thought!

yes absolutely okay. It's better than shutting and locking the door and much safer. I don't like gates at stairways anyway because I always worry the child will push it hard enough that it will fall and them too. If it's at the door and the child pushes it open at least you can hear it and have time to get there before they reach the stairs.

It is a good idea, at least until the child learns to climb over the gate (believe me, he WILL learn, and much more quickly than you would expect).

Yeah!!! So totally I'm only fourteen so I don't have any kids but you should because you don't want him to fall down the stairs. Best wishes.                                                            KrisL

Yes, of course it's okay.  However, the only problem we had with gates (we had to do a little construction ourselves for top-of-stairs) was that when she saw us step over the gate, she eventually began to climb it herself (fortunately our dog came to get us and we got to her just in time).  So, my word of warning is that the gate won't last forever and it's not foolproof  Be extra careful if your child is resourceful - he may look for a box or toy to use as a stepping tool.

Yes cause you dont wanna just block the stair but everything that he can get in to. Thats a good idea. GL

Yes its fine but I strongly suggest you put one on your stairs also even if it takes construction, it only takes one fall for him to get seriously hurt. And if you plan on having more kids then you might as well put one on the stairs now.
