i want to take my new chinchilla out of the cage but i dont trust that she won't run away so i want to put a leash on her. although the package of the leash shows only a guinea pig and a ferret wearing the leash, is it ok for a chinchilla to wear one?

  1. yes, if it fits her.

They make pet leashes for rats, guinea pigs, ferrets, bunnies, chinchillas, etc...

It's perfectly fine, so go ahead :)

  2. Its ok i would just get one of the leashes that is hooked on a harness type of thing. that might be the only kind they offer for rodents.

  3. No, chins have a very delicate bone structure and if she jumped while the leash was on she coudl break her neck or injure herself more than if she got way. If you can't catch your chin she needs a safe space to run, transport her to a safe room like the bathroom (make sure the toilet is shut and all water areas are out of reach) and let her run. I use the dust bath to transport from room to room, or a cat carrier. Good luck.

  4. yes, but she will probably slip out of it. and it will be difficult getting her to wear it

  5. Why don't you just escape-proof the room? That's a much better plan. Just get some cardboard and cover up small spaces that your chin can get to, shut the door, and let her wander around your room. You could also use the bathroom, which tends to be escape-proof already. Sit on the floor and hand her treats when she comes to you. It'll be a good bonding exercise, as well. You should do this daily. Leashes can work, but I'd be worried about hurting her, especially if she's not comfortable enough with you to not run away..

  6. yeah it should be ok. Their sizes are close to the same.

I had a leash for my hampster once.. so cute.
