Question:

Is it okay to run your air conditioner 24/7?

I just bought a 12000 BTU air conditioner for my apartment. I only have one window in the whole place therefore it is impossible to get air circulating. The air conditioner cools down the place within an hour but I like to keep it on 24/7 just to keep it cool. Is it okay to leave it on 24/7? Should I use the cool feature all the time or energy saver feature. I don;t have to pay the electric bill, I just want to know if running it 24/7 is okay for the machine. Thanks

  1. There is no point to leave it on 24/7. Especially if you are not there all the time. If the unit can bring the temp of the apartment down within an hour then just turn it on when you need to. The perfect temp for a zone is between 22 and 23 deg. You can live in this temp year round. Set your thermostat at that and don`t move it. If you want airflow, get a fan. Cheaper to run and more effective. Better for the machine, your pocket and most importantly, the environment.

  2. Leave it on in the warm weather, but DO use the 'energy saver' feature.  Generally that cycles the fan off when not needed.

However, you DO pay the power bill, indirectly in your rent.  The more power you use, the more likely your rent will increase in the future, the landlord isn't giving it away for free.

  3. Yes there is a themostat. just set it where you like it and leave it there until winter.

  4. yep its fine ,its actually better to leave it on all the time, cooling the house down from a high temperature is harder then just maintaining a temperature, it is good (for power savings) to turn it up to like 85 when your not home then put it back to whatever your comfortable at when your home but turning it off is actually worse.
