  1. This is a terrible idea. Non-alcoholic wine has small amounts of alcohol in it. You might as well be handing him a loaded gun.

If you are having an alcoholic (they're not ex-alcoholics...they will always be alcoholic...ask them) as a guest, unless he or she explicitly tells you it's okay to serve it to others, you should not have any in sight.

Some people can be around others using alcohol (or tobacco, or in casinos, or any other addictive activity) after many years of discipline. But, you can't assume that.

  2. bad idea! even worse if you drink in front of him! a counsler told my friend that while her hubby is in rehab! he told her to stop doing it in front of him and talking about it!

  3. It probably wouldn't bother me but it might bother another former alcoholic.  I suggest you ask the individual involved.

  4. no, its a bad idea

  5. Check with the person beforehand.  If they have less than five years sober, don't bother asking at all.  Most recovering people would say no.  Even in cases where the person might be OK with it, the people around them, who had to suffer through the person's drunk years, might not.

Martinelli sparkling cider is the customary substitute for things like champagne toasts.

  6. It depends on the person.  There are small amounts of alcohol in non-alcoholic wine.  IT might be better to try one of those sparkling grape juices that come in champagne styled bottles instead. Some people say that it can be a reminder and make an alcoholic want to drink again, or that the small amounts of alcohol left over can affect them.  It's probably better not to unless the person requests non alcoholic wine personally.

  7. Seems like it would be a bad idea.

  8. all it is is grape juice. don't fret it.
