Is it okay to start my jet ski and let it run out of the water for a few minutes every now and then?

I'm storing my jet ski in a heated garage for the winter. I was told that I will need to start it up after I add the fuel stabilizer, and then start it up every 3 weeks to a month after that. Is it okay to start it out of the water every now and then? And how long should I let it run?

  1. you can start it out of the water and let it run as long as you like  but be ready  to replace the  engine i believe that is water cooled and it will  over heat very fast

  2. no dont do that cause you will blow the engine.  jet ski engines are suppose to be cooled by water and thats why the water gets sucked up and run through the boat.  at dealerships they have special machines that they hook up to it that pump water out very fast and can let the engine run for a while.  it is ok however to let the boat run for about 2 seconds.  a quick on and off but it has to be very quick.  i dont suggest it at all.

  3. Yes you can start it up without water running through it for a short time.  The engine is water cooled and the propulsion system is water lubed.  So if you heat up the engine too much or heat up the drive too much you can do damage.  The best way to avoid having to start it throughout the off season is to run it out of fuel completely so the fuel can't go bad.  This also saves on fuel stabilizer.  You can run the ski for 30 seconds to 1 minute as long as you watch the exhaust temp. You do this by feeling the exhaust pipe.  Don't touch it, feel the heat from it.  If it is too hot to touch you have gone too far.

  4. Ask the dealer if there are any cooling issues.

  5. NO

even a few seconds running out of water could damage it!

Once you have added the fuel stabilizer and run it for 15 minutes or so (in water) to fill the carb(s) with stabilized fuel it should be ok till next spring

  6. do not leave running for any amount of time without water circulating... that is bad bad.... why not purchase engine water adapter so that you can run water into the engine to keep it from over heating on you???? while you are running it? it doesn't take long to blow the engine...

  7. read your owners manual
