I put a whole chicken in my crock pot to cook throughout the day. I guess I forgot to turn it on because about 4 hours later I checked it and it's off. Is it still okay to cook and eat?

  1. Give it a sniff.  I'm guessing that after only 4 hours you're probably ok, as cooking the chicken will kill any bacteria that have formed.  However, if it smells bad, it's bad.

  2. cook it then smell it hay if not do not trust it..toss it out was it hot at your place..........

  3. i wouldn't take any chances....throw it out.

  4. If the chicken was sitting there for that long and was at room tempurature I would not recommend eating it. Not safe and you should wash out the crock pot really well. If the chicken was frozen it might still be ok, but otherwise probably not a good idea.

  5. Chicken spoils very easily, so yeah I'd throw it out.

  6. Try cooking it.  Be sure, however, to cook it very thoroughly.  Cook it on high, I'd say, to be sure it really gets cooked well.  If you're cooking it in water, change the water before cooking it.  It's weird, but it does help.  Re-season the water and the chicken if needs be.  If you're cooking it in water, cooking it on high for a little longer than usual won't make it tough. It'll just get so tender it falls off the bone.

  7. if it was frozen when u put yes

if it was thrown out no

if its kind of slimy and have a odor no don't eat it
