Question:

Is it okay to switch around flavors of wet food all the time?

I know that when my puppy is ready for dry food that I have to gradually change his food by mixing his current food with the new stuff. However, can I give him one flavor of wet food one day--let's say chicken--and then give him a different flavor the next day--like duck? Even if it's the same brand of food?

  1. I have three large dogs that get Taste of the Wild dry food and I split a can of Merrick between the three of them once a day.  This food has a lot of gravy so it's moist enough to wet all their food.  I rotate between about five or six different flavors of this brand.

  2. Yes, of course.

  3. I don't know how old your puppy is but mine has been on dry kibble his whole life so I don't knwo what you mean about him being ready.  If you keep him on canned food for a while, he won't eat kibble.  JMHO

  4. yeah it is fine as "friends fur ever" said. as long it is the same brand. i have a 12 yr old chichi. my big 2lb 2oz guard dog! she has no front teeth only a couple of back ones. we get her the pedigree packets 12 box and they have 3 flavors in each box. she has had no problem at all with eating different flavors.

    have fun with your puppy!

  5. No, find out what it likes best and stick to that brand. It's not a good idea to feed them different brands or flavors because they will soon not eat any of it.So stick to the one it likes best.{:>)

  6. Sure its fine, my dogs get bord of the same flavor! Switch it up a bit as long as it is the same brand.

  7. Multivitamins have their place, but they DO NOT replace all the nutrients missing from a muscle meat diet. Yeah it is fine, but dog's do like change too!

Dogs are actually Omnivorous.they need alot less meat protein then cats, ferrets or snakes & feeding a high animal protein diet to a dog will take a toll on the dog's health.a dog is designed to to digest a wide range of plant and animal products.Dog's must eat more then muscle meat.they need plenty of carboyhdrates &fibre from vegetable matter and only a very small amount of fat.there protein can come from both plant and animal products.the other things to consider are sources of mineral such as calcium, phosphorous and of cause vitamins.

Dogs are they Carnivores? Are they really like wolves, hyenas, jackals? or Are they more like us? Is it foolish to feed them only meat? Should they be fed what there human family eats? The Truth encompasses a little of each.

In the wild, other hunting animal that seem similar to dogs, such as Wolves, hyenas eat fruit, leaves, grasses, dig for roots and even obtain vegetable matter from the stomach of their prey."

Cooked grains are nearly 100% digestible for dogs. There really isn't a

lot of question about this based on the results of feeding studies. I am not

sure why people come to the conclusion that grains are not good for

    dogs.

Feed a good quality dog food.

  8. I do I mean I get bored with the same food all the time! I wouldn't feed it canned forever! I have to feed one of mine canned cause he has no teeth he was abused but the rest I feed hard dog food!

  9. You can do whatever you want, as long as his stomach can handle it.  Some dogs get diarrhea do to sensitive stomachs, and can't handle switching of food. You can try and just keep an eye on his bowle movements.

  10. Yes you can, but I would not recommend it. Dogs do not get bored with a food. People change their food and throw off the dogs system. Then they give the dog human characteristics. You can cause colitis by switching foods all the time. My Border collie actually gets it if we change his food and can not stand wet food at all.

Pick a food that gives the best end product (yea thats right) and stick with it.

I use and recommend Canidae Dry Chicken and rice.
