Question:

Is it okay to switch left and right speakers?

I have a simple setup with Iphone connected to computer speakers (but no computer in between).

The AC comes out of the right speaker, but doesn't quite reach the plug, which is on the left. Can you think of any reason why I can't just put the right speaker on the left and the left speaker on the right?

I don't know if the sound coming out of a single speaker changes in direction. If it does, then a sound which is designed to swoosh across from one speaker to the other wouldn't work properly with the speakers reversed. If, on the other hand, each speaker only gives sound in one direction, then a smooth left to right swoosh would sound like a smooth right to left swoosh - which is totally fine with me.

Please address the issue in the paragraph directly above in your answer.

Thanks for your help!

  1. its ok, same music will flow

  2. sure you can do that--try it

  3. CAUTION! If you put it the other way it could START PLAYING BACKWARDS! OR! It might reverse your brain! OUCH! I dont think it would make you see upside down or anything crazy like that but... WHO WANTS THEIR BRAIN TURNED AROUND. YIKES.

  4. Theres no difference at all !!!

  5. yea you def can. the only thing that would change is if on a song there is a beat usually coming out of the right speaker, it would now come out the left... not a big problem. But yea, you can.

  6. It is perfectly okay to change speaker directions. It will sound a little different if that is what you are asking, but will not make the song unrecognizable or cause interference. When an artist records a song, they will record certain sound through the left channel, and others through the right channel. The speakers are completely independent of each other in stereo, and there is no swooshing (lol, that's cute) involved between the set of speakers

  7. Yes that should work fine. As you mentioned if something goes from left to right it will go right to left, but the speakers will still work well.

  8. the only diff. is the swish would go reverse.

  9. If your afraid of damaging your Iphone or speakers its all good.

Theres no way that could damage either.

However it will invert stereo sound and likely change the way the synthetic surround sound would work. But some audio files wont even have these features anyway. You'll most likely not even notice a difference. So go ahead and give it a try.

*Note : if the inversion of speakers bothers you, try looking under the setting menu of the iphone under sound properties or something... most devices have an option for reverse left and right channel... this would make it play normal with the left and right speakers reversed. Good luck.

  10. For playing Music it will be fine. The only problem is watching movies but your more than likely not going to be doing that.

  11. If you use stereo system the it's o.k to switch left with right. If you have Surround sound, don't even thing about it.
