Is it okay to use wood polish on an acoustic guitar?

It's steel stringed (if that makes any difference) and I don't have the time or the money to go out to a music store and buy guitar polish.

Thanks.

  1. No!  Absolutely not!

Wood polish is made for wood.  What you see on your guitar is many fine layers of clear finish.  Wood polish will do bad things to your guitar's body.  You don't want to use it.

You know, I've been playing for 20 years, and I've never once polished my guitar, ever.

  2. No time, No money, don't want to, don't trust.

The music store or repair shop would be the only place I would trust. Take it in and let them see what you want to do.

You don't know us. How can you be sure we know what we are talking about?

They are not going to rip you off. If they rip off their customers, they are not going to be in business long.

  3. I like lemon oil, pick it up for a buck or two at the grocery. I've been using it for years; haven't noticed any harm.

  4. I agree with Josiah; don't use household furniture polish on your acoustics. Instead, invest in a bottle of polish made by Martin, Gibson, or Fender.

You can't go wrong with either three.
