My mother freaks out when I do this; can you get a disease from this? I handwash, don't use the washing machine. I use the same sponge but wash everything with hot water and liquid detergent.

  1. Well I've had cats for over 20 years and I've done this with no problem.  Good for you for cleaning the cat's dishes.  Do make sure you use plastic or metal dishes.  Plastic can absorb bacteria which can cause Feline Acne on your cat's chin.

  2. I do this and we haven't gotten sick yet.  But if you're feeding raw or if the bowls don't get washed soon after use it would be better to keep them separate.

  3. Yeah I think it's ok. As long as you rinse it off with water after. ( :

  4. I doubt you can catch any nasty diseases if you're washing your dishes with liquid detergent and hot water. Just make sure that you rinse out the cat's food and water bowl thoroughly to remove all traces of liquid detergent.

  5. i wud use a differnt sponge.but then again i wash my cats bowl on top of the dirty dishes so smae thing.none of us are sick so.....it shud be okay.

  6. I don't think it matters unless you're a vegetarian.  Cat food is meat...dry food is dried meat and filler.  Your mom's problem is all in her head.  If it's a problem for her just use a different sponge.

Otherwise, no diseases.  It's just like a dirty plate you eat from.
