My mum thinks i'm being dramatic and over the top

  1. yes i think you can do that since the other dress is not a proper white traditional wedding dress, alot of people do it sort of your going away outfit

  2. My uncle married a Chinese-American woman a few years ago and traditionally, Chinese women don't wear the white dress we are used to in the US or UK, but more traditionally styled Asian attire. For her wedding, she wore the white dress for the ceremony and greeting line and then changed into a beautiful red and gold traditional Chinese dress. It was all cultural for her but even if you're not Chinese, it wouldn't be a strange thing to do at all. Its your wedding...enjoy the day!

  3. Far from dramatic. I bought a big dress for the day and a formal for the evening.itd be far to warm dancing all night in a huge heavy dress

  4. Its your wedding day so do whatever makes you happy. Who cares what other people think this is your day (well and you husbands, but mostly just your day)

  5. why not taking a gown where you can do the train off later on the evening, if you know what I mean, so that you can wear the same dress the whole night, but just with less frivolities during the party

  6. If you can afford it, yes. If you want it you should go for it.

  7. go for it, it's your day, do what makes you happy

  8. You can wear whatever you want as long you're paying for it. But if your mum is paying for the wedding, she may prefer that her money is spent elsewhere - better appetizers for the guests, more flowers in the church, whatever. Whoever is holding the purse strings gets the final say.

  9. It's up to you- but it is unusual and somewhat unnecessary.  Everyone wants to see the bridal gown and weddings are expensive enough without going to unnecessary extravagant expense.

  10. Personally, I think you should just wear 1 dress.

However, do whatever you want, it's your wedding!

  11. Its your day honey, wear whatever you want to.

    Good Luck

  12. I dont think its necessarily over the top. But its not for every bride. Personally, the brides dress is one of the highlights for me as a guest, and Id be little disappointed to not see it at the reception. I guess Im traditional; I like that flash of white floating around the room -- its the bride! But this is just my personal preference; do whatever you like.

  13. Well, if that's what you want, go for it, it's your wedding.  It would be a little over the top for me but it's a personal preference and you should do what makes you comfortable and happy.

  14. its your wedding! wear what you like! But i think that it's a great idea to have 2 wedding dresses!

  15. its your big day! so its up to you what you wear. and the dress is supposed to be the best part of the day, so i agree and think you should have two dresses :) go for it!

  16. I agree with your mom.  You only get to wear your wedding gown one time and it is unreasonably expensive in the first place.  Why in the world would you want TWO?  Then that's MORE money down the toilet.  What reaction do you think the second dress is going to gain you?  Admiration?  A spot in the local paper?  Ooohhs and ahhs from the guests?   No one is really going to care about the second dress.  It will make you look like a show off.  People would be more interested in a close up look at THE dress when you make your rounds... not the second dress.

I had the same fantasy too when I couldn't make up my mind... but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that it was a very stupid idea.

  17. I have 2 wedding dresses. The only reason be is a bought my first one ad Davids Bridal and its non returnable. Then 8 months later I went in again for bridesmaid dresses, and found another dress I wanted. So i bought that to. I only plan on wearing the second one. But if you wanna wear 2 dresses, DO IT. Its your party and you can wear 2 dresses if you want to... :) Good luck

  18. It sounds like a great idea. Especially since that way you're dress won't get in such bad shape because nobody will be stepping on it at the reception.

Just be prepared to have people make diffrent comments, some may say that it's a great choice to have another dress.

Other may say things about you not wearing the wedding until the end of the reception.

I wanted to have two dresses but after all of the costs, I only wore my wedding dress and in the end it was kind of nice because it's the only time I wore it so I had it on all day.

    Good Luck and Congratulations.

  19. I think its to much. You are getting married in one dress, want to wear it for part of the reception, then LEAVE your reception for about 30 minutes or more to go change into a different dress?  Will you then be introduced again, just so people will notice that you have a new dress on.  I would pick one dress that you truly love and wear it for the whole evening.

    EDIT:

If you want to wear a gown that has personality why not by a white gown that has red on it?

  20. How expensive are these gowns? If they are both very expensive then I could see why your mom wouldn't like it. Pheraps the train could be removed or put up so that you could move more comfortably? Honestly, its your choice but I wouldn't get the second dress unless it is very inexpensive and your first dress is too hard to move in. Do you really want to leave your wedding to change anyway? Some guests might think you spilled something or might think it was weird. Good luck with whatever you do.

  21. Hi no not really as long as the dresses are not too expensive, lol, I know my dress cost so much I would never dream of picking another one to wear as well, but if you can afford 2 then go ahead you are only married or have a wedding day once and make it one to remember.

They way I see it its your big day if you want it get it, and dont tell anyone then it will be a suprise when you change from one gown to the other, it will be really lovely.

  22. It is just fine.  That way you have a choice.

  23. I think its a good idea. When I first married over 33 years ago, it was traditional to wear a wedding dress, a dress for the evening, then one to go away on the honeymoon with.

In Morocco tradition is to wera 4 or 5 spectacular dresses, of differing colours.

Its your day so do what you feel makes you happy as long as it isnt hurting anyone else!  best wishes.

  24. If you want to wear two dresses, go right ahead.  Its your day and you can do whatever you want.  It will also show a lil more of your personality.

  25. You need to ask yourself the questions :- Is it really necessary? Would the money be better spent on something you really need, say for your accommodation? Could it be put towards a longer honeymoon?

  26. Not if you have the money for them....

I've been to quite a few that only use the first dress for the ceremony, then at the reception wear a different one.

    I think it's a sad waste....

But, I also think you plan to have a good balance with the dresses, at least wearing #1 for a while in the reception....

  27. I think you are being ridiculous.  You've been watching too many episodes of Platinum Weddings without the budget they have.

  28. I'm more concerned that you have "evening guests" that wouldn't have seen the gown at the ceremony than by your choice of having 2 dresses for the wedding day.

It is a bit excessive, but not at all unheard-of.

  29. Having 2 and even 3 gowns is the newest rage!  Go for it!

Your formal pictures and for all the formal parts of your Wedding, even the cake cutting should be done in the Bridal Gown!  This way your Wedding album will look cohesive and in the long run you will be happier with that when you look through it years from now.  There is no actual etiquette that addresses, this matter so use common sense for great results.

Change into your s**y dress after the music speeds up and everyone is dancing and having a good time.  You will feel more comfortable and you will be able to let loose a bit.  The photographer can take pictures of you dancing and group shots with your Friends in the 2nd dress, this will show nice towards the tail end of your album.

If you pay for the 2nd dress, then mom can't really complain!  Good Luck and have fun!!!!

  30. You'll probably be having such a great time you wont want to leave to get changed into the second dress. So no I wouldn't bother having 2 dresses.

  31. If you're talking about 2 "traditional" wedding dresses with long train and stuff, then I would think it's a little bit over the top, but if the other dress that you're gonna change later into is a simpler one, with a little to no train, is I think pretty common these days. Some brides want to change to a more comfortable dress for the reception that's why they got 2 dresses. Most brides will just have the train bustled for the reception so they can move around easier. BUT, it's your wedding day, and if you can afford it, then it's up to you.:) Just my opinion. :)
