  1. Yeah ,and in Marine combat swimmer qualification course which the Marine Force Recon guys have to complete the qualifying swim is 8 miles in OPEN OCEAN fighting waves and all that. In SEALs the hardest swim is 5 1/2 miles in open ocean but its even colder cause they do theirs in San Diego whereas the Marines do theirs off Costa Rica, either way, it can be done and those guys are freakin crazy.

  2. I personally know someone who swam the English Channel.  He coached swimming with me at the YMCA.

  3. For me personally, no.   I'd swim about 2 miles and then float face down for the last 7.

  4. It's phisically possible however sprinting any part of it would probably be a bad idea.

  5. Open Water Swimming is a new and up and coming sport.  They even added a 10K (6.2m) swim to the Olympics which takes roughly 2hours give or take.  The World Championships which are held every year, this year in Seville, Spain, hosted 3 events, the 5K, 10K, and 25K.  The 25K is roughly 15.5 miles long and take about 6 hours give or take to finish it.  There were about 40 people who did it.

For example, Erica Rose (she's like the open water queen) has swam 88K before. (www.ericaroseswimming.com)

So, yes it is possible to swim 9 miles.

  6. i wouldnt be able to do it but its posible

  7. Yes it is possible.

  8. It's possible if you are in shape and have your endurance built from swimming a lot of long distances.

  9. The open water event in the Olympics is 6 miles so what's another 3?  The bigger question is if you are crazy enough to swim 9 miles.

  10. yeahp! Over 500 people so far have swam the English channel across to France, which is 23.69 miles.  However it is predicted that most of these people swam between 30 and 40 miles because of the tide swaying them from side to side.

  11. Of course its physically possible. On my team we all just went down to key west 2 weeks ago, and swam a 12.5 mile race around key west, and it took about 4-5 hours, we had to have a person in the canoe/kayak to give us water and food, but other than that it was strait through. It was the hardest thing to ever do. We were sore for atleast a week, and never want to do that again. You just have to train hard for it, and be in good shape, and its possible, and if you tell yourself your not going to give up, then you can do it.
