Is it pointless to rent a car for a Nassau vacation?

Not really but it kind of depends on where you are staying and what you want to do. I prefer to have one while there because I like to explore, drive to Lyford Cay, & find off-the-path beaches.

Driving on the opposite side of the road takes a day to get used to, just watch those right turns!

You can do fine without a car and take taxi's for anything that's somewhat far.

The island is so small you don't really need a car.

Its not pointless....but I wouldnt do it myself.....the steering wheel is on the right side of the car and you have to drive on the left side of the road.
