Would it just be looking at buildings or is it worth it?

  1. On my campus there are always students around.  I would call first and see when tour guides are supposed to be around.  Just visiting without a tour guide, you will still get a sense about the school and the environment.

  2. I don't think it would be pointless.  I visited a campus during summer break without a tour guide, but we were allowed to walk around the student areas.  I got a sense of what it would be like to live on that campus.  You can walk from the dorms to the classrooms to get a feel for what you might be doing everyday for the next four years.  You can read up on some of the college history, events, rules, etc. on posted signs around campus.  The area is also key, walking around campus will show you what bus stops are available for rides into town. There are a lot of things to be learned from a college campus visit, regardless of who is with you.
