Im going down there for a month in June, and I was looking into renting something in order to get around San Pedro Sula.

Any suggestions?

  1. There are lots of motorcycles and scooters here in Honduras and they  can be rented for a reasonable price.  It is not any more hazardous and the police don't hassle you anymore than anywhere else.  There is a helmet and closed toe shoe law though.  Rent a machine, buy the insurance and enjoy yourself.

  2. It doesn't make any sense to me for just a month, especially if you're going to be in just one place for most of your time.

My choice for a short stay would be public transportation.

I have in the past purchased used motorcycles(twice) when I knew I was going to be in a country for three months or longer and then sold them before I left so it was very inexpensive.

For just a month, I truly couldn't justify the cost of renting any kind of transportation.

Bear in mind you also assume a lot more personal and financial liability by operating any kind of motor vehicle in a foreign country and you can also attract more than your fair share of unwanted attention from the police...Just my opinion.

Have a great trip. I like SPS and have quite a few friends there. Buena Suerte!

  3. I don't know about being popular, but there are a lot of motorcycle's and scooters down there.

They have a lot of traffic with congestion and a motorcycle makes it easier to get around the traffic.

Just be careful b/c if you have never been to Honduras you wouldn't know how they drive...crazy!
