Is it posible to stand excalty on the tip of the nth/sth pole with a compass?

if you stand on the north pole with a compass, are you able to take a step right and it spins to (east or west?).

  1. If it's a really good compass, then yes, it will always point to the magnetic pole, which is not the same as the axis of the earth's rotation. However, for most compasses, it will oscillate within close proximity of the magnetic pole due to fluctuations and inhomogeneities of the magnetic field near the pole.


  2. Depending on the type of compass you had it would either point down toward the ground (ball compass,) or it would spin slightly (flat compass).  The ball compass would point down for north because the north end of the needle is attracted down at this very point.  The sources are much more helpful than me.  :)
