Question:

Is it poss to pump washing machine wastewater 10ft vertically to plumb it into an existing waste pipe?

I want to install a washing machine in the under the stairs cupboard to create space for a dishwasher in the kitchen. However, due to a conservatory on the side of the house Im unable to conventionally plumb in the wastewater pipe into the wastewater sewer. I was therefore thinking of pumping the washing machine waste water upstairs linking in with the bathroom plumbing (wastewater). Is this feasible? Would this result in the pump burning out? Are there any other suitable methods? I understand that a nearby drain is a rain water drain and therefore cannot be used for wastewater. Any thoughts?

  1. You should be ok to pump it but it needs to only pump when the machine is pumping out. A saniflow does this but for toilet waste.

  2. This unit will pump up to 7/9meters

  3. You need an additional pump. The washing machine pump will wear out quickly trying to pump that high.

  4. I would think you could drain the washing machine in to a holding tank and then pump it upstairs with another pump using a float switch (like a bilge pump in a boat)

  5. I think that is way to high for a washer to pump to. Go to the askmehelpdesk.com and ask an expert. They will tell you what to do.

  6. yes,,,actually it is quite simple.

  7. no you will burn your pump out and probably get back flow into your machine.

  8. There is usually another way, i.e run waste pipe either outside to where there is a suitable drain, or inside through the wall to the kitchen perhaps, linking in with the plumbing there?

A saniflow will cost you hundreds, plus installation, and will wear out fairly quickly I would expect, and be noisy whilst in use. Saniflow pipework should go straight to either a soil pipe or in this case a drain as not cat 5 water, not through other waste pipe connections. Bit of a grey area, try something conventional.

  9. No way !!
