Is it possiblable to use a dv camcorder with a directTV dvr?witout a subscription?I want to record live sports

i need to be able to record Springboard/Platform Diving for practice so the kids can come out of the water and view the dive which they just did. ive seen it working at a dive meet. so i bought a dvr off Craig list. when i power it up it keeps checking for a satilite signal. i dont have directTV, and dont need it. The reason for the purchase was to set it up at the pool.

please help.

just a thought...i saw a place for an access card which i dont have. Could this be the problem or is that for the use with the satilite?

You will not be able to use the DVR without a subscription.  I wanted to take my HD DVR box to a buddy's house so I could show him the HD content I had recorded on his HDTV and it would not work.

I called DirectTV and they said it was a "bug" but it will still not work.
