Is it possible engineers?

I have a good idea as to make my own go kart....

I plan to use a mattress and a bedframe as my kart. I heard of some people doing this and I wanted to do it myself. Now I will have some help. My brother has a masters in Mechanical Engineering and a Bachelors in Physics. He said it is possible but would be sorta difficult.

The only problem I have is I don't know what kind of engine to use. I just want an engine strong enough to propel one person (preferably 2 people) and for 600-800 dollars.

What would be good? I was thinking a golf cart engine with a car battery but that wouldn't go really fast.

I don't understand why you would start with a bedframe and mattress.

Yard karts that are used can be found in newspaper or craigslist.

Starting with that should make it much easier.
