Question:

Is it possible for a 3 month old baby to sleep too much?

My baby went to sleep yesterday at 5:30pm. I thought it would be a nap, but he is still asleep and its 7:14am! I did still feed him every 2-3 hours ( I am breastfeeding), but he never fully woke up during his feedings. Is this too much sleep for a three month old baby?

Background: Yesterday we went to an outdoor BBQ. It was sunny and windy and he was very fussy. I had him bundled and he slept in my arms for a while after much crying. He didn't get a long nap during the day before going down at 530. Could this have anything to do with his long stretch of sleep?

  1. It is normal for a baby to sleep 20 hours a day.  As long as he is still eating I am sure he is fine.  He is probably just tired from being fussy and not sleeping much yesterday.  Take this time and do something for yourself lol.

  2. You sound like one of the luckiest parents around.  Most people wish they had you baby.  He's fine and God Bless Him!

  3. It sounds like he's fine.  As long as he's getting enough to eat he can sleep as long as he needs to.

(And yes, if he napped poorly yesterday, he probably was just very tired, and so slept long last night.)

  4. It seems like everythings fine but if you continue to worry it'd probably be best to take him for a check up just to put your mind at ease.
