Is it possible for a 5 month old to...?

sleep too much? I haven't recorded her sleep times lately but in the past week she's been really tired, especially today. She's been cranky. I know it could be her teeth (or lack of). Her diaper is clean. She barely ate her food at dinner. Not sure what's going on.

Could sleeping too much be a symptom of something bad that I'm not thinking of? I might be worrying over nothing. I probably will call the pediatrician in a couple days if this keeps going on but I want to know if there are any sicknesses out there that this could be a symptom of.

Thanks. Right now she's screaming. She was half asleep. Oh well. Off I go!

  1. Could be a growth spurt. Mine slept all the time and barely ate... if its a growth spurt she'll be eating like a maniac in a couple of weeks.

  2. It isn't rare for babies to sleep alot when they teeth. My daughter is 7 months and she is rarely hungry for her solid foods at the feeding times. She only wants her bottles as the chewing on the nipple helps with her teething pain. Let her sleep, she will wake up when she is hungry. But if you are still concerned then talk to your doctor.

  3. she may be going through a growth spert or maybe she is coming down with something. let her sleep, that is fine and make sure she is hydrated...

  4. i think she should be sleeping 13 hours a day

  5. Angela always seems to have a lag in her appetite and an increase in naps when she's on the verge of a growth spurt. It doesn't last long, though...this goes on for about a week, and then she's starving all the time. Major growth spurts happen every few months...you probably noticed she had a big one around three months, and you can expect another around six months. That's not that far off, so that's more than likely what's going on. Best of luck!
