Is it possible for a PS3 game to crash the entire PS3 console?

I've been hearing a lot about GTA IV games crashing PS3 systems. Is it really possible for a game like GTA IV to crash the whole console? I just got a PS3 about a week ago and I got GTA IV today, and I am a bit worried about this whole PS3 and GTA IV crashing problems..

  1. No, GTA 4 didn't crash the whole console, it just wouldn't work. And they released a patch that solved the problem, so if you have your ps3 connected to the internet, then you're fine
