Is it possible for a UK student to do an apprenticeship in the USA?

I'm 17 and have just finished my first year of college, i want to know if i could do an apprenticeship in America, I would like to do Web Design. How do i go about getting one?

  1. Try a Study Abroad program, if your university has one.  You could study for one semester or one year in the US and get credit at your own school.  

    There is really no such thing as "apprenticeship" in the US.  There are internships, but these are arranged for course credit through your US university, and usually come after you have completed all or most of your coursework.  Most internships are unpaid or for a small stipend.  You would have to be accepted into a computer and web design program at a US university, and that would be expensive.  You are also too late to transfer for the coming school year.


  2. The US does not have nearly as many apprenticeship programs as do European countries.  You could get a J-1 visa for a short-term course and then possibly do an "internship" related to your course afterward, for a total of 1 1/2 years, I believe.  Check with the American consulate.  

  3. does your college have a study abroad program? if so try there first, because then you would get credit for doing it.
