Is it possible for a book to be edited and were for words or passages to be removed?

such as in Jane Eyre?

because I am reading it and it seems like some words are missing.

or maybe its just me.

  1. COUTURE, it's also possible that a book with an expired copyright might be produced in a place where English is not the native language and nobody checks the text during production. If they can sell them and turn a profit, quality is not a concern.

    I have a Malaysian copy of "Huckleberry Finn" with some pretty bad mistakes, including repeated text and upside-down pages. I'm kind of pleased with it, even though it's frustrating to read.

  3. There are such things as 'condensed books', which take out passages deemed to be irrelevant to the main story, but it doesn't sound like that's what's happening here. Maybe it IS you.
