Question:

Is it possible for a car's tires to slip frequently in the rain even when they have a lot of tread on them?

I have a 2007 Chrysler 300 and for a while, in any kind of weather going over 40mph, I felt like the wind was pushing it all over the place and like the tires were slipping. So I had the tires rotated and balanced and everything has seemed to stop but the car still slips VERRRY easily when its wet outside. For example when Im on the freeway doing a constant speed of 65 going straight, it feels like it swerves from left to right and I just have to slow down because I think Im going to lose control of the car!

The tires have A LOT OF TREAD, and the guys at Discount Tire (who balanced the tires) didnt mention that I needed new tires when i asked them so how could this be???

PLEASE HELP..... this is such an unsafe feeling.. :(

  1. It may not be the tires it may be something to do with the suspension or steering, I would recommend that since it is a 2007 model and under warranty have the dealer look at this for you because this is a safety issue............

  2. Take a penny and put Lincoln's head in the tread.  If you can see part of his head, then you have too little tread and it's time for new tires.

Your tires may be overinflated.  Get a tire pressure gauge and check the pressure and compare it to the pressure rating on the tire.

  3. SCARY INDEED

it is what is know as hydroplaning, water cannot be compressed ,and at higher speeds gets trapped in your treads and becomes as if you were "driving " on the top of the water and not the pavement.

while it is true that it is mostly a tread issue, sometimes regardless of tread it does happen.

I would have the struts and shocks checked as well , they sometimes contribute to this problem..making it even worse

  4. you need to go to a different place and see what they thank about them.  If they say the same thing ask them to do a full car check up and see what the problem is..

  5. get "brand new" tires.. not discount tires!

  6. check your air pressure if you have a low tire it will caise the car to pull to one side

the car may just have a diffucalt suspension and you may be running upon puddles or streams causing a change in speed from one side of he car to the other causing the car to be pulled

some tires just do better then others for the mose part thee more directional gaps/spacing you have the less chance that you have to hydroplane and many high speed tires do not do well in the rain

but your best bet is that you need a froint end alainment that will also cause the strreing to feel like it is pulling in a direction or if really messed up pulling indiffeent directions

    goodluck
