Is it possible for a company to have message boards wiped clean?

Most definitely. Yes.

I have seen this on many sites.

I have shut down an entire forum

Twice. Not really meaning to cause

any discord.

Apparently, they (site admins) took me seriously.

I go away for the day, the next day I went back

They were down, but not out.

Btw, the site I placed as a source wiped all its

forums clean once in the middle of last year.

The forums there was a great idea at the time.

But they soon went awry.

It's closed because I scared them half to death

with a heads up warning.

No ego here, just stating my facts.
