Is it possible for a conservative woman to be a strong, independent thinker?

Why is that when a liberal woman, like Geraldine Ferrarro or Hillary Clinton, runs for office liberals consider that to be progressive, and the candidate is a strong, independent thinker, yet when a conservative woman like Sarah Palin runs for office, liberals deride her nomination as pandering and overlook her achievements and talk about her appearance? Do liberals believe that it is impossible for a woman to be a strong, independent thinker and hold ideas contrary to liberalism?

Liberals believe that they are the only independant thinkers yet they all seem to think like one another just as conservatives do. The only true independent thinkers are - You Guessed It : Independents. However, when Independent ideals become mainstream ideals they are no longer independent. So everyone needs to shut up or put their money where their mouth is.

Of course it is.  There are many Conservative, positive and independent thinkers who are strong in their views and values.  Liberals prefer to bash those who challenge them or who have values which are different than their own.  Sarah Palin is quite a lady and has determination, grit and a strong will to get the job done when she is persuing a situation which needs to be changed, in her eyes.  She is someone who threatens the libs so they look for any reason to tear her down.  Can't wait to see this lady in action!!  I think we are in for a real treat!

Yes, it is. However, I don't think any politicians are "independent thinkers", especially ones who adhere to the Democratic or Republican parties.

I think that it is possible for conservatives to be strong, but not independent thinkers.  Most conservatives cling to their strict conservative ideas and religious dogma to guide their actions.  What upsets me the most about women like Sarah Palin is that they support ideas and an entire party that doesn't support women, g**s or any other minority. Liberal women like Ferrarro and Clinton, and many others along the way, have pushed and pushed to get equal rights for women (and others) and believe in all the ideologies that support that.  Palin, and women like her support very narrow view points of how people, in general, (women and men) should live their lives and what they should believe.  Sarah Palin is where she is today because of tough progressive women who have paved the way - made waves, made progress, and fought for individual freedoms. Sarah Palin wants to restrict and take away people's individual freedoms and have them adhere to strict way of life. She might as well have been born a century ago.

I am neither a liberal nor a conservative. I see too many who call themselves conservative as really authoritarian. So yes it is possible for a woman or man who is conservative but NOT authoritarian to be a strong independent thinker.

Liberals can't stand independent thinkers.  As soon as they hear someone take an independent stand that is not in line with liberal dogma, they almost never make a reasoned argument refuting the idea.  Instead most liberals make a personal attack on the thinker.  I have long since realized that they do this simply because they have no reasonable argument against the idea, so the only recourse they have left is to attack the person.
