I seen a human explode in the movie The Fury and a James Bond episode. I was wondering if a human could really burst into blood like that? You know, just vaporize and nothing will be left but tiny piece and blood.

I heard that when you go scuba diving, there's a possible chance you may explode if you come back up to the surface to fast and your parts would scatter into atoms into space.

  1. First of all when scuba diving down to deep deaths and becoming accustomed to the pressure and coming back up you won't make it to the surface in time to feel the enormous pressure difference and explode, you would pass out or give up because of the pain and die.  Your body would not be able to function by then.  When underwater your body adjusts itself so that it can equalize the pressure of the water surrounding you.  If you could shoot to the surface, your internal pressure would push outwards and if you went from an enormous internal pressure into and environment with minimal external pressure then maybe you would explode.  But no person could physically get to the surface that fast.

Spontaneous combustion is a myth.  It is highly unlikely to happen, for a body would have to ignite itself.  This could be done if there were great amounts of flammable gas inside a human and if there was an ignition source.  However, it would probably never happen.

  3. Sadly yes it's possible but very rare.

  4. No, this is a myth.

  5. Spontaneous Combustion? Don't know. Although I'm pretty hot.

Burst into atoms? No. Burst a lung? Possible. You would have to hold your breath on the way up after taking a breath at depth. It's called Lung Overexpantion. It happens sometimes to divers who don't exhale properly on their way up. There is also Decompression Sickness (DCS) or the Bends. It's caused by the nitrogen that is built up in your system reforming into a gas because you did not decompress properly. The bubbles are very small and will not blow up your skin, but there are other problems and pains it can cause.
