Is it possible for a mare's eggs to be frozen for later fertilization?

My mare is getting old and I am afraid I cant breed her. I want a part of her when shes gone. Is it possible to have her eggs fertilized in another horse?

  1. have you thought about breeding her and placing the egg in another mare so that if it is not what you want you can do it again before she passes on. i am sure that you could bc you can free sperm


  2. yes it is called Embryo transfer. However it is quite expensive. You need to have a "recipient" mare that will carry the foal. Often a younger mare who can handle carrying the foal.

    The costs vary by who you have do the transfer, but vet fees alone can run up quickly and could end up being 5-10K easily.

    And that is BEFORE you pay for the stud fees.

  4. You can do an ET (embryo transfer) transferring a fertilized egg from a mare to a surrogate mare. you can also use slow cooled and frozen s***n for breeding .
