I think you mean SPORTS.  Is it possible to compete in more than one Olympic Sport at a time- I don't think there are any rules about it, but the athletes in one sport are so busy warming up, training, practicing, then competing that I don't believe they would have ANY time to do so for another sport which usually competes in a different location and often times they're simultaneous.  So I doubt it happens often, if at all. It would simply be impractical.

  4. Yes it is very possible, in fact, Micheal Phelps is competing in 8 different swimming events this year. You can compete in as many as you want, as long as you go through the qualifying process and the events are not at the same time.

  5. a person can be in as many events as they think they can handle as long as it's in their particular sport

    michael phelps (swimmer) is in 8 events this olympics: 400 m individual medley, 4 x 100 m freestyle relay, 200 m freestyle, 200 m butterfly, 4x200 m freestyle relay, 200 m individual medley, 100 m butterfly, and 4x100 m medley race.

  6. Many people have competed in different sports, not just events within the same sport.  Here are some that competed in both:

Eight Americans have competed at the Winter and Summer Olympic Games:

Connie Carpenter Phinney (speed skating, 1972; cycling, 1984)

Willie Davenport (athletics, 1968 and 1976; bobsleigh, 1980)

Eddie Eagan (boxing, 1920; bobsleigh, 1932; medaled in both)

Dave Gilman (canoe and kayak, 1976, 1984, and 1988; luge 1984)

Arthur Longsjo (speed skating and cycling, 1956)

    Connie Paraskevin-Young (speed skating, 1984 and 1980; cycling, 1996, 1992, and 1988)

Arnold Uhrlass (speed skating, 1960; cycling, 1964)

Chris Witty (cycling, 2000; speed skating, 2006)

Some include Willie Gault, who qualified for the 1980 Summer and 1988 Winter Olympics, but didn't compete in either.

Canada has four Olympians who competed in Winter and Summer Games:

Pierre Harvey (cycling and cross-country skiing, 1984)

Clara Hughes (speed skating, 2002; cycling, 1996; medaled in both)

Susan Holloway (cross-country skiing, 1976; canoe and kayak, 1984)

Hayley Wickenheiser (ice hockey, 1998 and 2002; softball, 2000).

But North Americans aren't the only athletes who've done double Olympic duty. East Germany's Christa Luding-Rothenburger is the only person to win medals in both the Winter and Summer Games in the same year (speed skating and cycling, 1988).

More athletes who've enjoyed both Olympic seasons include Croatia's Igor Boraska (rowing, 2000 and 2004; bobsleigh 2002), Hungary's Miklos Gyulai (bobsleigh, 1994; athletics, 2000), Netherlands's Jeroen Straathof (speed skating, 1994; cycling, 2004), and Norway's Jacob Tullin Thams (ski jumping, 1924; sailing, 1936; medaled in both).
