I was just wondering how strict they are, or if there are coffeeshops that let minors buy weed anyway.

  1. Coffee shops are for coffee not for soliciting weed to minors.

  2. I imagine they are pretty strict. Why would they risk their licence for a few bucks?

  3. "Coffee shops are for coffee not for soliciting weed to minors."

    Cafes are for coffee.

    Coffee shops are for drugs.

  4. Not only is selling to minors illegal, selling weed to someone who then sells to minors is also grounds to revoke the license of coffeeshop owners. Just recently when I went to a coffeeshop, they had just been raided and had had to prove to the police that the person buying weed from them was not a dealer. No coffeeshop owner in his right mind will risk selling to minors.

  5. Legally then no, you have to be 18 to buy it

There is increasing pressure to close coffeeshops within the Netherlands, and one of the clauses that marijuana is 'tolerated' and not prosecuted is that coffeeshops are not permitted to sell to people under 18 (or actually to even allow minors on the premises).  If they are found doing this, then their licence to operate will be revoked, and the licence will not be reissued (to a new party).

Therefore with the pressure from the local councils, coffeeshop are paying closer attention to the rules and you will find yourself required to show ID (unless it is very obvious that you are 18 or over of course)

Of course there may well be some transactions to minors that do take place, but lately that is risky business!
