I had acl and meniscus surgery in the spring of 05. i had two screws placed in my knee. I now have a hard round lump about a 1/4 of an inch away from the incision. Could it be the s***w working its way out? My fiance' seems to think i had pins put in and not a s***w. I really don't remember. But its very sensitive to the touch. Is it possible for a s***w to strip out the bone?

  1. It is possible, but more likely just scar tissue.

  2. If the bump is fairly new, I would get in touch with your Orthopedic surgeon.

If you had a patellar autograft and there is bump by that incision, it could be the s***w backing out of the tibial tunnel.  I have a very similar bump, that is the head of the s***w that my surgeon used.  He placed two screws in my tibial tunnel, so one sticks out a little bit.  If you did not have a patellar autograft and you are referring to a differently located incision, than it is more than likely scar tissue.
