  1. No usually if you were smart enough, you'd get out of the way, however ground staff do get hurt/killed while on the job, like when a Continental ground staff dude got sucked into the engine....A mechanic .

  2. I have heard of people getting "hit" by the jet exhaust and throwing them, ran over by aircraft tugs, sucked into intakes.. but ran over by an aircraft.. anything seems likely, but this may be a very isolated incendent ,as the speed at which they taxi is pretty slow and size makes for a easily visible target to avoid.. More common is people walking into the tail rotor, or an aircraft jumping forward when they are trying to hand prop the aircrfat and getting struck by the prop..

  3. PW3, it is possible and has happened. An airport ramp is a busy, congested place. Airlines do all that they can to promote safety, but accidents do happen. Fortunately, fatalities are few and far between.

    Almost anything is possible!

    Dan

  4. Yes entirely. Of Corse People get hit by cars all the time..Why not a plane?

  5. Yes, it is true.  I work as an aircraft accident investigator and have been on several accidents involving people on the ground being hit by wings, propellers, and jet blast.  You can go to the following web site and look at the accident rated by type of operation:

The FAA published book called Administrator’s Fact Book available on line at:

  6. The danger definitely exists. Anyone working near a plane that is "live" has the chance of being injured or killed. It makes no difference whether it is static, taxiing or being towed. I had a friend whose foot was run over because he was too close to the landing gear when it was being towed. ADDED>>>>>>>Yes he did recover and he was very fortunate not lose the foot. It was subjected to a "rolling" motion and sustained less damage than a sudden crushing force. The pictures taken immediately after were pretty ugly.

  7. The most common one i have heard of is being chopped up by a prop airplane .

  8. I don't see why not. It can occur,  just like any other freak accident can.

  9. Of course it's possible.

I've even seen a guy walk into a moving propeller.

    (he didn't make it)

  10. this is a true story perhaps 18 years ago, a 747 classic (200) was being push back for engine start for departure, an A&P mechanic was the headset man ,was walking along side the 747 but the long chord of the headset got tangled so he went to untangle  the chord but he tripped and fell. the guy was run over by the 747. Re creation seems impossible the thing to happen but it did happen.Too gross to describe but the saddest thing was the guy has been recruited by Saudia Air and just awaiting visa. from then on we're told to follow procedures in towing and included in training seminar on doing headset comm. with the cockpit
