Is it possible for an American to get rent in URUGUAY??

If an American were to go down to Montevideo and take a spanish class, is it possible to find rent? I want to live right on the beach and spend about anywhere from 200-500 a month. Could I do that? i know the rules are different with renting there? Are there contracts? HelP!

  1. If it's like in Peru, Chile or Argentina, people dont rent unless there is a guarantee and that means like a 6 month fee deposited in the bank. People rent from a year onwards, however if there's a contract and there's a deposit, people can rent for less, but I am sure not monthly. To me absolutely sure, check the Uruguayan newspaper and check the real estate pages and contact people directly via email and check about the possibility. Sadly, there have been many people renting flats for months and then fleeing without paying anything.
