  1. No its not possible at all the league is not goin to pursue giving the MVP to a player on a team with a losing team. You have to have a 50 win season and a great season for MVP.

MVP is more than just scoring points. Even if a player average 40ppg if his team is not winning and his team does not win anything close to 50 wins the player will not win the MVP. Its all about winning and having a great season.

  2. yes, but its not very likely. unless they completely dominate in stats

  3. no, the mvp should come from a winning team. how can you call him most valuable if his team is losing in the first place.

  4. yeah

  5. Jerry West is the only guy to win Finals MVP on the losing team in 69

These days MVP voting has placed a higher value on team success, so unless somebody has a super human effort, I would doubt that it happens again.

  6. Yeah like in the 1988 NBA Finals even though the Detroit Pistons didn't win the title Joe Dumars still got the NBA Finals MVP Trophy because he played the best out of everybody.

  7. i dont think so because obviously they werent as valuable as the name says if the team lost the game

  8. I think its possible. I mean if a player, say, on the Rockets scores 60 points, 15 rebounds, 5 blocks, and 10 assists during the NBA finals, wouldnt you call him the most valuable player? regardless that his team lost. Maybe his teammates didn't hustle as much. But that doesnt make the player less valuable to the team, it only makes him more valuable because he carried the team on his own. Paul Pierce absolutely deserved the finals mvp because he worked hard, not because the Celtics won.

  9. Not really. Not even for the regular season MVP. Kobe and LeBron both had great individual achievement the past few seasons. But Kobe didn't trust his teammates and didn't make his team one of the top three seeds. Therefore, he was always the 2-3rd in MVP voting. Same with LeBron. No matter how incredible he is, his team is always the 4th seed (thanks to Mike Brown's teerible offensive strategies). Therefore he couldn't win the award. If he ever carry his team to 57+ win season... then he will win it.

As for the finals... It's even less possible. Would you vote, for example.. Allen Iverson's stats and performance overshadowed everyone else in 2001 NBA finals... But that wasn't good enough to win the finals. Would you vote him to be finals MVP?

Add: Anthony: Joe Dumars didn't win it in 87-88. James Worthy did. Dumars won it a year later... when Pistons won by sweeping the Lakers.

Asker: Still not possible. Shaq had better stats than Finals' MVP Chauncey Billups in 2004. But Shaq didn't win because he was on a losing team.
