  1. Unless you claim you don't know who the father is or if you say you were raped they will want the father's signature.

  2. You need to check with the adoption agencies in your state.  It may be possible to put ads in the newspaper in the cities where he last lived.  If he doesn't respond, then you can proceed without his signature.

  3. There are many steps you have to do before an adoption can take place with out father consent. Even then the new adopted parents know that if the father comes in to the life he has the right to the child if he does not want to sign his rights over. So a family is taking a chance in the loss of there child, being giving back to the father.

  4. well it was done to me without my knowledge 22 years ago ...it wasnt right ...it was against the law ...but the lawyers did it anyway ....now i have found my daughter and i have let the mother off the hook ...she did what  she thought was the best thing at the time ....do what you think is best ...s***w the rest ...the child comes first thats all

  5. Maybe it is - maybe it isn't.

Why - do you think the father hasn't the right to make this decision about his child??

Perhaps there is more to this case - but from what you've written - I don't see words that care for the father's rights - or that of the child.

And until such rights are terminated by both parents - the child does not 'belong' to the adoptive parents.

  6. No it is not, I lived in Shelby Co..for 25 years and my sister did an adoption like it. You have to notify the Bio-father if you cant find him or don't know where he is they will run an add the paper..I cannot remember the actual paper but it was not the commercial appeal but some smaller one, I had never heard of. It has to run for a few weeks to make sure he has a chance to see it., of not response they consider it abandonment and terminite his rights. Thats how it was with our case...no father, no signature and over in 3 months. I would suggest an adoption lawyer. It cost 600$ in 96 for this kind of adoption. Good Luck

  7. Yes dad should be informed, lets face it he has a right to know and therefore decide what he wants for his child. He may want to parent. The laws in IL regarding the fathers consent were changed due to a case called "Baby Richard" who was placed for adoption by his mother at birth. This case went through the courts for many years and finally when dad won the child back the media was all over it like a fly on ****. The media showed this child get transferred from the only mom and dad he knew to the parents he knew nothing about. Watching this child scream and cry and not let go of his mother was gut wrenching. Long story short...the birthparents (now his only parents) end up getting divorced and mom has custody. As aresult of this adoption....laws became stricter in IL and less room for error (well you need a legitimate lawyer too).

I would let dad know so he can participate in the decision making and if it is adoption you all chose then it can be done correctly so that there is no risk for disrupting the childs life. You need to do what is in the best interest of the child (short term and long term). Good luck!
