the reason i'm asking, because I was watching gray' last night and They had a situation with a african-american couple with a baby they adopted and of course you can clearly tell the baby was from asia. I thought in reality adoption agencies had rules on race. I would really like to know because i'm thinking of adopting one day and i'm african-american and I don't care about the race of my child if I do adopt.

  1. of course it is possible, it happens all the time,

  2. There are no rules about what races can and cannot adopt from China.  The only thing is, if you are of Chinese descent your adoption is expedited (sped up).  Good luck!

  3. Adoption does not rule on races, but on family and financial stability.

  4. I think that it is more difficult for a black person to adopt any child unless that child is black.  However, if a black person has money it might make it a lot easier. It seems like it is alot easier for a white person to adopt any child especially if the child is  from china.  Please do not get discourage, you might be able to adopt from there.  Good Luck!!!!

  5. In the ideal adoption scenario, the baby's race and the adoptive parents' race are the same, but there are many, many more Asian and Black infants needing families than Caucasian, so mismatches are common.

Where I live, there are many Orthodox Jewish families with Chinese or Korean kids. That's no worse a match than Black and Asian. Clearly race isn't a factor. What matters is a loving and stable home.

  6. race is considered in the adoption process but is not a final decideing factor. For example.....if there if there is a caucasian child up for adoption with an african american couple and a caucasian couple with identical credentials and waiting time...the caucasian couple will get the child.

The reason bechind this is not to be racist...its to provide the child with a life most similiar to what it would have been with their natural family and also to avoid and "identity crisis" for the child later on in life.

Secondly, the odds of you receiving a non african american child are pretty slim unless you specifically request one. The reason behind this is because african american children are the least "in demand' for adoption, with caucasian children being the most "in demand" . This means there are more african american children that are availabale for adoption that will not be adopted than there are caucasian children.

Congrats on your decision to adopt...and Good Luck.

  7. I don't know what you mean by "african americans," but if you mean people with black skin, I can definitely confirm that is allowed.

My wife and I have adopted from China twice, and I do believe I saw people there adopting who had black skin. I think they might have been from England, though, so does that make them African-English?

  8. I say yes

  9. Anyone race can adopt a baby. It doesnt matter where they are from. As long as you can provide a stabe loving home thats all they care about. Look into and see what you can find out. An adoption agency does not go by race. Good luck with your search:)

  10. I'm going to be honest with you and tell you that there was an african american lady with my agency who tried to adopt a child from China, and she was turned down by the chinese government because of her race. I don't know if it would've been different had she been married, or if it was that she was black AND single. The agency went to bat for her, and tons of people sent in letters to the chinese government and eventually china relented and let her bring the little girl home, but it was really hard for her. Perhaps after that incident they stopped discriminating against african american parents, perhaps they let african american married couples adopt, but just be aware of this if you do decide to adopt, in case any issues should arise.
