Question:

Is it possible for an unlicensed MSW to find social work employment in the US Army?

There are several international social work vacancies, but they all seem to require an MSW with a license. Does anybody know whether exceptions can be made, especially if I have years of experience in a particular field?

  1. Since you've asked, I am curious why you have not received your MSW?.  As far as the army goes, you will be able to enter it with a rank as an officer.  So, what are you waiting for.

  2. It is possible, what you need to do is convince them that you are licensable.  You have to demonstrate that you could pass the license if they needed you to.  I actually don't know if they really need a license as the military is except from so many of the "civil" laws and codes (which the license is in the civil code).  It is worth responding to the ad and or calling them and having the conversation.  If you send a cover letter be sure to address the issue.

  3. I'm a BSW student and from my classes on ethics it is unethical for a BSW or an MSW to practice with out a license.  As far at the Army is concerned I have no info. on that one.
