Is it possible for gasses to leak out of the atmosphere into space?

  1. No the gravity is what pumps all the air from space. Not just of earth but all mass.


  2. Yes - especially helium - all those balloon are total loss.

  5. Yes, at the upper limits of the atmosphere some molecules of gas escape into space, this is due to the high speed that molecules reach when when they are excited by cosmic rays.

  6. Yes, it happens all the time, but for all the gas leaking out, there is some that is captured too... and the net result is that more gas (and solid material, space dust, rocks, etc) is falling in than leaking out ... and the Earth is gaining 40,000 tons (0.00000003% of its mass) per year.
