Is it possible for low lying coastal areas to be infiltrated with sea water where water extraction is too high

I saw somewhere that where a USA county allowed the extraction of more water than the water table existing contained resulted in the ingress of sea water .I am thinking in particular of the Iberian peninsular where golf courses on the coastal areas extraxt more water than the existing water table .

  2. The Iberian Peninsula is in Europe...specifically, the countries of Spain and Portugal.

    Beyond that, yes, saline (sea) water can infiltrate the water tables of low-lying coastal areas...with or without exacerbation by human extraction.
