I have always dreamed of flying under my own power. I think it is so cool

There are only a few such machines. They are very fragile so they are kept at airports in large hangers and only used on windless pre-dawn flights.

To operate one, you need to be a world class athlete, and able to simultaneously pedal and fly.

Costs are about a million dollars or so; should be possible to make one for about $200k if labor is free.

More practical craft are ultralights; powered parachute may provide the thrill you want at a reasonable cost.
