  1. Depends on how you are connected to the internet. Most of us (99%)  are connected in a way so that if your PC is turned off for awhile, when powered up it'll have a different address. If your ISP (Internet Provider) gave you a fixed IP address you won't be able to change it.

    To check your IP address, use a command window, and type "netstat -r" and the current real IP address you're using will be the IP number listed under "Interface".

    And, this should have no effect whatever on your PC.

  2. Your ip address is usually assigned to you by your internet service provider and is not fixed. It may change from time to time.

    If you purposely want it changed, you can ask your isp to change it and they will.

    You can modify your tcp/ip settings and assign yourself an ip address. However, this will likely cause problems. Your address probably will duplicate an existing ip address and cause conflicts between your computer and the other one. This will cause information intended for you to go to the other computer and vice versa.
