It's been about a month since high school started, however because I was at the hospital I missed about half so far. Also, I really want to be homeschooled, and my mom suggested I be home schooled instead. Can I drop out right now and enroll a program of home schooling instead?

  1. I don't know you of course but sorry you were in the hospital.  Depending on your age you could just "drop out" if you are 16 or older.  However if you are not yet 16 find your curriculum and then let the school know you are switching schools- to homeschool.  In Texas and several other states this is rather easy some states are harder to get it all done but I am sure you will still be able to do as you wish in that regard.

I was living in TX when I was in high school, after I turned 16 I "dropped out" waited to turn 17 took my GED and went to College.  I had been homeschooled before I went to high school.

Good luck and I think you are making a good decision.

  2. Laws vary from state to state. In Arkansas for instance, if you file your Letter of Intent to Homeschool (2 page form) by August 20th, that is all you have to do to start. After the 20th, you will need to file the paperwork but the school may decide to hold your request up for up to 2 weeks before you may legally unenrol. This isn't such a bad idea because in many instances a family's decision to homeschool was made in a rush before researching it. That two weeks will often give the family time to be sure that is what they want.

Check out the laws for your state. HSLDA is a good one stop location for researching each state's laws.

No matter what your state laws are, there is no reason why you cannot go ahead and begin selecting curriculum to use independently or online homeschool if your parents prefer to pay a private online school to set up instruction for you. Your family could also participate in a local or an online homeschool course co-op. In these co-ops, each family takes a course to teach that all can take and in return their kids have courses taught by other families. Local co-ops can occassionally be hard to locate initially. Try doing an internet search for the nearest large town and the word homeschool. An online co-op that you may want to look into is Virtual Homeschool Group. It's web addy is at http://www.virtualhomeschoolgroup.com/. I teach in VHSG and love it! We have a course management system (the website I gave the link to) as well as an online classroom. The online classroom allows the kids (4 to 8 students per class) to meet live, online together with the teacher and each other. The virtual classroom has full duplex audio, whiteboard with awesome tools, text chat, webcam, webpush, and tons more tools. It is a really fun environment. If you want to observe a high school level course, just e-mail me and you are welcome to join in on one of my classes to see what it is like. My e-mail is armoorefam@centurytel.net.

  3. you can, here is some food for thought:

If you are high school age, would it be possible for you to have a parent or an adult friend (over 21) be trained through the LITERARY COALITION, a nation wide program (which can be found in the GED office of your community college)to start you training for your GED. Depending on your age, you may be able to take the GED fairly soon.

If you are 16, does your community college accept 16 year old students?

My state does not accept home school Diplomas accredited, so my daughters are taking college classes while they waiting to be age appropriate for the GED.

    God Bless You!

  4. Of course! That's what I did during high school and I was fine. All homeschooling programs offer you to start any time in the year, and there is no set school year unless you choose to go by one. Also, generally with homeschooling you can finish one school year in virtually a 4 month minimum. It's such an amazing option.

Try googling "Keystone High School" or "Keystone Home school," they are a very well thought out, professional way to home school, much like the regular form of high school.

    Good luck!

  5. yes as far as i know anytime u want you can go out of school and get homeschooled at least i know its like that in Florida and im almost positive its like tha almost everywhere.....if ur really gonna do it you should be happy to have such a nice mom most parents wont want to homeschool their kids so if your really gonna do it look up online ciriculums and stuff

  6. yes but that it's not a good idea if your going to drop out of school then you should in role in a GED class because a lot of collages don't accept home school OK!

  7. Getting homeschooled is a very good option in your circumstances. I am currently homeschooled and enrolled in Penn Foster High School. They send you your materials and books so that you could do your work at your own pace and time. Best decision I have made in my life! It's easy and you do it all by yourself. You don't need someones instruction you do it all. Its really easy and it gives you the opportunity to do many other things that you may have in mind. You can go to their website at pennfoster.com

What I did was withdraw from my former high school and enroll in this homeschool high school program. The diploma has the same value as a public schools' diploma would. Its easy. You can finish much faster if you are willing to. I needed two more years of high school and by this program I will finish in a couple of months! Go for it!! Hope your well. ;)

  8. HSLDA has a website that posts the requirements for your state in order to homeschool.  They usually post support groups that are active in your area so you can get the support and information you need to get started in your state.  Homeschooling has become an accepted way of education in many states and countries, however, the requirements vary from state to state so do a bit of research and you will be on your way.  it is great that your mom is in support of this as well.

    Good luck!

  9. Sure you can, when i first started home schooling i joined at the end of November. Both of the links below are accepting new students and they also give you a computer and pay for Internet access. Once your in the program they also assign different teachers to you to call if you have questions about the curriculum I recommend connecton academy its the same program I'm in.

  10. Everything's possible. You can do that but there's a bunch of info. to fill out (including all the exams...)

  11. u can but suggest u stay in school b/c if u want to be home schooled u have to take exams and fill out a bunch of papers

GOod Luck!! I hope u recovered well!!!

Atteintion: Will someone go to my profile and answer my lastest question please?
